• University programs are increasingly competitive and expensive. Professional courses, such as engineering, computer science, medicine and law, are receiving more applications than ever. Your applications need to stand out to increase your chances of success. We help students in grade 10 and 11 be prepared for the college and scholarship application process, ensuring their student CV is ready. We then perfect your applications, and assist with interview preparation. There are also many scholarships and opportunities available to students and applications can start as early as age 14. The sooner you start, the more money you can accumulate for you education.

My Scholarship Tutor is a very personalized and extremely cost effective service. Some other college admissions advisors are charging 10-12K per annum to provide university advice to high school students. We feel our rates are extremely reasonable and make our service very accessible.

  • The sooner the better. Starting the process in grade 9 or 10 is ideal, because you can start optimizing your student portfolio early, which will give your more opportunities. Many students are busy with multiple extracurricular activities, but don’t necessarily have clear direction. It is ideal when your extracurricular and community activities reflect your core interests and values. We mentor and provide guidance in this area.

Some scholarships and monetary awards are available to students as young as 14. The sooner you get focused and organized, the more chances you have of winning free money from scholarship donors.

Many senior students are anxious and stressed in their final year, and we provide guidance and focus to students who pressed for time, and have hard deadlines to meet. Applications need to be carefully considered, and time management is important. We can help you get organized.

  • Absolutely! Thousands of scholarships in Canada and the US have early deadlines that occur MONTHS before you apply to university or determine your area of study. Often the winners are not announced until spring, but deadlines for applying can be very early.

Many scholarships and bursaries are from businesses and charities, and are independent of college scholarships and awards. There are scholarships, grants, bursaries, awards and competitions offered 12 months per year, and for some, students as young as age 14 can apply. Starting this process early certainly increases your chances of winning more funding..

  • Unfortunately, many schools have hyperinflated student grades, so the majority of students who apply to competitive programs and awards all have top marks. The key with the application process is to stand out and show that you are a competent and capable individual, and for your student CV to show evidence that their university campus would be better with you on it.. Some programs weigh the applications heavily at 25-30% in the admissions process. Extracurricular activities, volunteering and community work are now required on most applications for university admission, not just for scholarships and bursaries.

We will help you create a student portfolio that highlights your strengths by providing evidence that you are a top candidate. We are experienced in teaching students how to sell themselves to universities and scholarship donors, and can give you an edge.

  • Effective personal essays for applications and scholarships are personal and reflective, often describing your experiences and life lessons. Essays should vary immensely between applicants, depending on their life experiences, goals, ambitions, dreams and obstacles. Essays that have been constructed by artificial intelligence tend to be predictable, formulaic and very "beige." This is not what admission boards and scholarship donors want to read. They want to learn about who you are as an individual, and AI cannot provide you with this information. If you want your application to stand out, using AI will put you at a distinct disadvantage. It’s best to brainstorm with your tutor and ensure that both the content and tone of each essay is optimal.

  • It's not.

In the university application and award process, private school students can sometimes be at a disadvantage and may automatically be categorized as privileged and not "financially in need." For this reason, having a solid student portfolio is almost essential for students attending private school. You need strong marks and extracurricular activities, and it is crucial that you also have evidence that you contribute to your community.

There is evidence that many top universities rank high schools and this can impact their decision making. AP and IB programs, and international math contests are useful because universities can more objectively compare students between regions, due to their standardized marking rubrics.
